Professionalisation of the Georgian environmental Inspectorate

InfoMil, in close cooperation with the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment (IM), supports the professionalisation of the Environmental Inspectorate in Georgia. The Inspectorate, state agency-subordinated to the Ministry of the Environment Protection and Natural Recourses, is responsible to execute the state environmental control.

Project objectives

The project objective is to increase the capacity and institutional strengthening of the Georgian Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, in the field of environmental compliance assurance in Georgia.

For institutional and legal improvements the areas that need to be improved are:

  • The prioritization and streamlining of the activities of the Inspectorate in a more effective way
  • The evaluation of existing and the development of new strategies, related operational plans and policies
  • The development of mechanisms to ensure continuous training of the Inspectorate's employees and the establishment of a team of trainers
  • The development of procedures, instructions and checklists
  • Communication and co-operation with local authorities, public society and other institutes.

Project intervention

The project intervention will consist of 5 phases. The project will start with an inception phase to identify the exact needs of the Inspectorate and to further align this project with other running initiatives. In the second phase (Development phase) management systems and documentations with be developed and implemented. In the third phase (Training phase) the staff of the Inspectorate will be trained. The focus within this phase will be on Train-the-trainer. The documentation that will be developed in the second phase will be used as training material in this third phase. In the forth phase (Investment phase) laboratory equipment will be purchased and instructions will be given. The project will end with a final seminar (Completion phase). 

Duration of the project

The project duration is 24 month and started in October 2010.
